The Prague Playoffs

The top of the world gathered at the O2 Arena in Prague last weekend for the third edition of the Prague Playoffs, the big season final of the Longines Global Champions Tour. Of course we were all looking forward to Saturday night's LGCT Super Grand Prix and last night's GCL Super Cup. In that GCL Super Cup, Christian Ahlmann appeared for the Shanghai Swans at the start with our 11-year-old stallion Dominator 2000 Z (Diamant de Semilly x Cassini I – B: Stud 2000 BVBA) and they were once again the mainstay of the team. During the first round, Ahlmann and Dominator 2000 Z left the ring with 5 penalty points, but in the second round they managed to ensure the only flawless round for the team.

In addition to all those super finals, there were of course a lot of other classes and highlights on the program in the Czech capital, and a few Zangersheide horses also knew how to give the best of themselves. Ahlmann and our 10-year-old black stallion Solid Gold Z (Stakkato Gold x Calvin Z – B: Gestüt Sprehe GmbH) once again confirmed their good form over the past few weeks. After they won the 1.45m high Grand Prix qualifier last weekend in Peelbergen Equestrian Center, Kronenberg, they also showed a strong appearance in Prague! On Thursday's opening day, a fault kept them from a 2nd place in the opening class, but a day later they finished 3rd in the second individual qualifier for the Global Champions League.

But the most striking Zangersheide name last weekend was undoubtedly that of the 14-year-old stallion Atome Z (Amadeus Z x Toulon – B: Haras des Brimbelles) ridden by the French rider Titouan Schumacher. After Schumacher and Atome Z got off to a good start during the opening day on Thursday with a 3rd place in the first individual qualification for the Global Champions League, they also managed to ensure a top ranking during the two following days. In both the second and third individual qualification for the Global Champions League, they were good for a 2nd place in the ranking!

In the same class on Friday, we also saw two other Zangersheide horses reach the top 10 of the ranking. There was a 7th place for Gregory Wathelet with the 11-year-old gelding Picobello Full House Ter Linden Z (Forever d'Arco Ter Linden x Cento – B: Hoeve Ter Linden) and a 9th place for the French rider Roger Yves Bost with the also 11-year-old stallion Cassius Clay VDV Z (Calvino Z x Wolfgang – B: George van de Velden), who won in 2019 the Sires Of The World in Lanaken under the saddle of Rob Heyligers.

In addition to the final of the Longines Global Champions Tour, there was also a two-star show in Prague and a few horses managed to ensure Zangersheide success in this too. For example, yesterday during the CSI2* GP there was a 5th place for the Slovakian rider Radovan Cibere with the 10-year-old mare Deau Re Mi T&L Z (Deauville de la Vie x Corofino I – B: NV T&L).

Earlier in the day, the Czech lady rider Anna Helebrantova also managed to secure a 5th place with the 10-year-old chestnut gelding Epo van de Achterhoek Z (Echo van 't Spieveld x Wandor van de Mispelaere – B: Dirk De Pauw) and this in the 1.35m class.
