In the Netherlands, in addition to the Longines Global Champions Tour in Valkenswaard, there was also international action at the Equestrian Center de Peelbergen in Kronenberg last weekend. There, the Belgian rider Koen Vereecke once again delivered some strong performances with his 11-year-old mare Donna van de Windeweg Z, a daughter of Diamant de Semilly and Indoctro who was bred by Luc Deknudt.
On Friday, Vereecke and Donna van de Windeweg Z competed for the first time during the 1.50m high Longines Ranking class and that immediately yielded in a top result. In a class against the clock they managed to keep all the poles in the cups and their finish time of 52.46 seconds was good for a 2nd place in the standings.
But Vereecke and Donna van de Windeweg Z are winners and so Vereecke was eager to do even better on Saturday. In the 1.50m main class they were one of the 10 combinations that managed to qualify for the jump-off and in that they did exactly what was expected of them. The duo finished in 33.85 seconds and with that they managed to beat the competition and take home the cup.
Vereecke: “It could have been even faster, but I couldn't manage it. Fortunately, this was also good enough. Donna is very fast herself, so if I don't do crazy things, a top ranking is often a possibility."
Another notable name in the Peelbergen was that of the 15-year-old Tornedo Dingeshof Z, a son of Tornedo FCS and Galoubet du Marais out of Jaak Vermeulen's breeding. Under the saddle of the Portuguese rider Mario Prieto, Tornedo Dingeshof Z became 5th on Friday in the 1.50m high Longines Ranking class and yesterday on the final day there was a 6th place in the 1.45m class.
Finally, the Dutch rider Gerben Morsink was also placed two times in the Peelbergen with his self-bred gelding Carsey Z, a son of Carthino Z and Guidam. During the opening day on Thursday they became 2nd and on Saturday there was a 5th place, both in a 1.40m class.
