Last week we were on Spanish soil for the third and final week of the second part of Oliva's Autumn Mediterranean Equestrian Tour. With twice a second place and once a third place, this second part has been very successful so far for former Belgian Champion Karel Cox and his 10-year-old gelding Curiano Van Maarle Z, a son of Canabis Z and Germus R who was bred by Corneel Verhaeren. However, the successful duo saved the best for last week, when they won the 1.45m high Longines Ranking class on Friday. Cox and Curiano Van Maarle Z finished in the 2nd phase in a time of 28.85 seconds, giving them more than a full second ahead of the competition. With this performance they also beat the British rider Oliver Fletcher, who finished eighth here with the 9-year-old stallion Hello William, a son of Waldo van Dungen and Stakkato, who was born at Lissava Stud Farm with the name Willie Wonka LVS Z.
Furthermore it was also a successful weekend for Koen Vereecke with the 9-year-old grey mare Call Me de Muze Z, a daughter of Clarissimo Z and Ramiro Z out of Joris De Brabander's breeding farm. After Vereecke and Call Me de Muze Z had already finished sixth twice the week before, there followed twice a second place last weekend. On Thursday it was in the 1.45m high qualification for the CSI2* GP and on Saturday in the 1.45m high Longines Ranking class. Both times they managed to ensure a clear round.
In the 1.45m class on Thursday, Dayro Arroyave also qualified with our 8-year-old chestnut stallion Cascol Z, the son of Casall and Calvaro Z, who was bred by Piet Janssen. They also managed to keep it clear in this speed class and their time also earned them an eighth place.
But last week there were also two Zangersheide victories under the Spanish sun. For example, the final for the 7-year-old horses on Wednesday was won by the mare Coconut van Paemel Z and this under the saddle of Andres Vereecke. Coconut van Paemel Z was bred by Stoeterij van Paemel and is a daughter of our grey stallion Cicero Z in combination with Sandro Z. Dayro Arroyave finished ninth in this final with the Zangersheide approved stallion Karmann 2000 Z, a son of Kannan and Cassini I who is also a half-brother of our black pearl Dominator 2000 Z.
The British rider Harry Bateman took care of the other victory with the 9-year-old chestnut mare Zuniek Vd Tojopehoeve Z, a daughter of VDL Zirocco Blue N.O.P. and Calvados which was bred by the Tojopehoeve. Bateman and Zuniek Vd Tojopehoeve Z were the best yesterday in the Gold 1.30m class.
