Bronze for Alaska Z at the Belgian Championship for 7-year-olds!

Next to an international two-star show, Azelhof in Lier has also been the setting for the Belgian Championship for 7-year-old horses in recent days. The last years this championship has always guaranteed one or more medals for the Zangersheide horses and that was no different yesterday afternoon.

After the silver medal of Kendra Claricia Brinkop and the chestnut mare Takotak Z (Telstar de la Pomme x Darco – B: Geert Baertsoem) last year, this year the bronze medal was colored blue and yellow. It was Nick Vrins who secured this with the bay stallion Alaska Z, a son of our grey stallion Asca Z and Utrillo Z, who was bred by Nicky Dilliën and Jean Jordens and who is also approved for Studbook Zangersheide. Vrins and Alaska Z were one of the four combinations that also managed to keep clear in the final after the two qualifying rounds on Thursday and Friday. They qualified for the jump-off and were allowed to start as second combination. The duo took a lot of risk and also managed to convincingly set the fastest finish time in 44.00 seconds. Unfortunately, they got a fault on the very last fence so in the end it didn't become a gold medal, but a bronze.

In fourth place in this championship we saw Thibeau Spits with the stallion Impress-K van 't Kattenheye Z, a son of Indoktro K van 't Kattenheye and Vagabond de la Pomme who was bred by Tony Raman and Mieke Strobbe and who is also approved for Studbook Zangersheide. Spits and Impress-K van 't Kattenheye Z also managed to qualify for the jump-off after three clear rounds, but unfortunately they had to deal with two faults in that jump-off.

The fifth place went to Kris Christiaens with the stallion Viva la Vida Z, a son of Vigo d'Arsouilles and Cambridge who was bred by Anton Vullers. Christiaens and Viva la Vida Z didn’t drop any poles over the three rounds and only ran into 1 penalty point for time during the first qualifying on Thursday.

Finally, there was also a top ten ranking for Cedric Gysbrechts with his home-bred stallion Django Van 't Schanshof Z (Diamant de Semilly x Heartbreaker). They were still in the lead before the start of this final with a flawless score, but a fault on the firste fence of the double combination ultimately resulted in seventh place in the final ranking.
